Sherlock Taxi enables LeCab to disrupt the Paris taxi market

LeCab’s founders approached Haulmont to become the first Sherlock customer. Working closely with the Sherlock team, LeCab has revolutionised transport in France by offering a limousine quality service at a ‘taxi’ price point with an average response time of less than 7 minutes across central Paris.

Just three years after launching, LeCab had a fleet of over 1000 Peugeot 508 sedans, each with an iPad on board, and had become the fastest growing ground transportation company in France, serving hundreds of thousands of users and more than 3000 corporate accounts. By June 2017, this figure had grown to more than 2000 vehicles.

The Opportunity

In 2012, the founders of LeCab identified an opportunity to utilise technology to meet the huge latent demand for taxi travel in Paris, as the city’s regulatory environment was relaxed. LeCab contacted Haulmont Technology (via Addison Lee) to arrange a consultation and specification visit to London and quickly agreed to launch their start-up company as the first Sherlock customer.

The business was to soft launch with 30 vehicles, building brand awareness through word of mouth recommendations and focusing on consumer work until it had the fleet size to approach corporates. iPhone and Android mobile apps would be essential to target young, high spending customers and provide a competitive advantage. Alongside innovative technology, LeCab offered a luxury service at the price point of its street-hailed competition.

The Solution

After a period of consultancy and configuration, Sherlock experts were onsite at the LeCab office for two weeks to support the roll-out of the system and act as a support during the launch.

The Sherlock team delivered numerous bespoke developments unique to LeCab’s Sherlock Taxi installation. For example, the driver payment processing was customised to use the French RIB (Relevé d'Identité Bancaire) format rather than IBAN, integration with a new telephony system and configuring a unique points model to reward drivers for doing work at different times of the day.

The Results

By the end of its first year, LeCab had a fleet of 100 vehicles. This figure grew to over 1000 by 2016 and over 2000 by 2017, making LeCab one of Paris’ leading ground transport companies. LeCab has featured multiple times on television, in newspapers and magazines such as Les Echos, Le Figaro, Vogue, and ELLE and also has an impressive account client base featuring Société Générale, Christian Dior, and Pernod Ricard. LeCab has regular partnerships and integrations with local companies to maximise exposure and offers, such as organising a taxi from a website that suggests restaurants, bars, and events over Paris. The company continues to innovate by launching a new iPhone app and integrating with SNCF railways for automated pick-ups. It takes thousands of bookings per day and over 50% all its bookings are made through the customer-friendly Sherlock iPhone app. 2017 also saw the launch of LeCab's own dedicated technical team.
